MATCH ANALYSIS
This time it weren't the opponents' red cards, neither the trip the motives for the defeat. This saturday, Coritiba's players couldn't find themlseves in the pitch and were easily dominated by Marilia's fast team. Wrongly lined-up in first half, Coritiba gave all the spaces to Alisson, Marcio Richardes and Creedence, the home team's best players. The mistakes were corrected for the second half, but the forwards' lack of efficiency turned to be a subject again. Even though they had more time with the ball, the green-and-whites couldn't score and came back without a single point.
With this defeat, the Greens fall to fifth place, with the same 15 points. Again, as usual, the team does not fulfill the objectives as planned by the Club's Board: reaching 18 points untill the World Cup recess. With this planned performance, Coritiba would be in second or third place, depending on the criteria. Avai leads the championship with 19 points, followed by Sport Recife with 18, Nautico with 17 and Paysandu with 15.
The first half had a slow beginning. Both teams were respecting each other, but the home team soon realized that could count on Alisson's speed by their attacking left side, exploring Coritiba's weakness on that side, as Jackson, who was playing there for Coritiba, is not a good defender.
In the fourth minute, the fast striker came from the right and took a low cross, but no one could reach the ball, and it passed through the area. Three minutes later, unmarked, Alisson headed over the bar.
Creedence received another cross from Alisson and shot for Kleber's excelent foot save.
The Greeners' first shot would come just in the 16th minute, in a foul taken by Ricardinho for an easy save by goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
Coritiba felt Caio's absence, and could not get to the offensive field.
In a corner kick, Marilia loses another oportunity. Three minutes later, Alisson goes through the left, easily passes by Henrique and cross for Fernando to score. Two of the home team players were unmarked inside the box, in one more defensive mistake, from Coritiba.
Alisson still had time to lose one more chance, by shooting the ball over the bar, and Kleber was tested by Marilia's attack, saving a good shot too.
The inactivity that some players presented, such as Fabio Pinto and Jackson, made it impossible for Coritiba to reach the opponent's net.
For the second half, though, coach Bonamigo came with two substitutions: defensive midfielder Peruibe and center-forward Jefferson replaced center-back Nivaldo and center-forward Alberto, respectively. The team seemed to get better.
At the very first minute of the second half, the fans could notice a different Coritiba. In a cross taken from the left, Jefferson headed into the net, but the refferee Martha Peçanha impugnated the goal, because of a foul.
Coritiba's midfield seemed to be better, too. Jackson and Fabio Pinto were participating more of the match and Coritiba dominated this area.
In a brilliant play by Ricardinho, Jefferson scores his second goal in the game, from a low cross. Unfortunately, this goal was annulled too, as the striker was caught in offside position.
Two minutes after that, coach Bonamigo uses his third and last substitution: young midfielder Renan takes Fabio Pinto's place.
In a good offensive combination from Coritiba, Henrique tries a header, and Marilia's goalkeeper Julio Cesar makes a reflex save, for the defense to loose the ball definitively.
Six minutes to the end of the match, Jefferson has the last real chance of equalising. The striker tries a violent kick, but Julio Cesar saves. After that, Coritiba couldn't offer any more danger, and the game ended 1-0 for the home team.
New punishment for the same mistakes. The attackers' lack of effectiveness against one no more than regular defense is a routine. The defenders also have been commiting mistakes in all matches. Good reinforcements are needed for the midfield. But Coritiba also needs, above all, winner's attitude, that doesn't fear any opponent and always plays to win.
The next match will only take place in July 11, against CRB in 'Rei Pelé' Stadium, in Alagoas State. The opponent comes from a good win against Sport do Recife, away. If Coritiba win this next one, they can regain a good position in the table, besides serving as motivation for the players and the fans for the subsequent games, against Paulista and Vila Nova, which will be played home, in Couto Pereira Stadium.
